Abstract

About the industry in La Rioja we should emphasize the following aspects: 1.- The eanning and wine industries are strenghtened by a varied and rieh agrieulture. 2.- There is a great number of eraft workshops but one of them ha ve 1000 workers. In the period of 60s and 70s some of the industries in La Rioja were created from the start and have now developed to a national range. 4. - With the arrival of the economie crises, the investment of capital has been reduced. . 5.- From 1982 onwards investment has reached the most important sectors waiting for our integration in the European Economic Community (E. E. C.) 6.- La Rioja has taken advantage of its proximity to the Basque Country. 7. - More than fifty per cent of the firms are concentrated in Logroño, the capital of the province. 8.- The regions of Alfaro-Calahorra (With canning firms), Arnedo (with shoe and canning firms), Haro (with wine growing industry), Nájera (with wooden furniture industry) and Logroño have become the most industrialized points on the Ebro Valley. 9.- The regions of Cervera del Río Alhama, Santo Domingo de la Calzada and Torrecilla en Cameros, placed in an area comprised by the South and the Iberia n Mountain range, show scarce economic resourees and sparse population.
