Abstract
In this paper a synthesis is exposed on the historical process of creation of new cities (coloniae) that Rome took to effect between the second half of IVth century B.C. and the IInd century A.D. There is valued the role of these colonial foundations as instruments of the Roman state for the control of the territories that it was annexing throughout the time and there are described the procedures and the technical abilities of the land surveyors that were applied in the creation of a new city and in the organization of its territory.Downloads
