Editorial Flow

Journal of English Studies accepts the submission of research articles and reviews.

Any type of submission undergoes a preliminary evaluation by the editorial team, and depending on the type of contribution, the editorial process will vary. In the case of reviews, the editorial team makes the decision on the acceptance or rejection of the submission, which is communicated to the corresponding author by email. Research articles are subjected to an evaluation process following the double-blind peer review system.

The process from manuscript submission to its final publication, as the journal is published annually, has an average duration of 30 weeks.

Process Phases

1. Receipt and Initial Review

  • The manuscript must be prepared in accordance with the author guidelines and submitted through the journal’s platform after the corresponding author registers by accessing the “Submissions” section.
  • Once the manuscript is received via the platform, an acknowledgment email is sent to the corresponding author confirming receipt of the manuscript.

2. Initial Editorial Evaluation

  • The editorial team conducts a preliminary analysis to determine the relevance and suitability of the manuscript with respect to the journal’s focus and scope, in addition to subjecting it to similarity-detection software to check for overlaps with existing works.
  • The editorial board deliberates on whether the manuscript meets the minimum quality requirements in terms of writing and content.
  • If the manuscript does not meet the requirements, it may be rejected at this stage without proceeding to the next phase. In this case, the corresponding author is informed that the manuscript will not proceed with the editorial process, along with the reasons for rejection.
  • If the manuscript meets these minimum requirements, it will move on to the double-blind review phase, detailed below.

3. Review Following the Double-Blind Peer Review System

  • The manuscript, duly anonymized, is assigned to two reviewers—specialists, either national or international, with experience in the subject matter and language of the article.
  • The Journal provides the reviewers with a review report template for evaluating the manuscript, along with the guidelines to be followed during the evaluation.
  • The reviewers evaluate anonymously and issue one of the following recommendations:
    • Publishable
    • Not publishable
    • Publishable pending revision
    • Not publishable
  • In case of discrepancies between the reviewers, a third evaluation report is requested to resolve the differences.
  • The review deadline is 5 weeks, so this phase of the process may take between four and ten weeks.

4.Feedback to the Authors

  • The authors receive the double-blind review report along with the editorial decision and the anonymized comments from the reviewers.
  • If the manuscript does not pass this phase and the decision is “Not publishable,” it is rejected and the corresponding author is informed that the manuscript will not proceed with the editorial process, along with the reasons for rejection.

5. Correction Revision

  • The authors make the suggested modifications and resubmit the corrected manuscript along with any comments they consider appropriate regarding the changes made.
  • Depending on the significance of the required corrections, the revised manuscript is either reviewed by the editorial board or resubmitted to the reviewers, who re-evaluate the document to verify that the corrections have been implemented.

6. Approval and Acceptance Letter

  • The editorial team makes the final decision on the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.
  • In the case of acceptance, an acceptance letter is sent to the corresponding author.

7. Prepublication and Final Publication

  • Once accepted, the manuscript moves to the prepublication stage.
  • Prior to prepublication, style corrections, copyediting, and editorial adjustments are made with the authors’ approval, and a final draft (or proofs) is sent to the authors to check for any typographical errors.
  • The article is then prepublished in its preprint version, and the corresponding DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is assigned.
  • From the acceptance of the article until prepublication, an average of three weeks elapses.
  • Once prepublished, the author is informed that their article is now available for consultation and download.
  • When it is time to publish a new issue of the journal, the manuscript moves to the final publication stage, being assigned the issue number in which it will appear.
  • Prior to final publication, a final draft is sent to the authors for their definitive approval. They are given a maximum of ten days to provide their final approval of the proofs.
