Encuentros transnacionales en el cine peri-Brexit
relaciones especiales en "About Time" y "The Nest"

Las representaciones fílmicas de la dupla transnacional mujer estadounidense/hombre inglés, abundantes en el cine anglonorteamericano, suelen descansar en nociones reificadas de la identidad británica y estadounidense, que a su vez son reconocibles por el público y adaptables al mercado cultural transnacional. Este artículo explora representaciones de estas “relaciones especiales” tratando de detectar los procesos de construcción y negociación identitaria que fueron relevantes en el contexto del Brexit, entendido no solo como evento político sino como un fenómeno cultural más amplio. Se argumenta cómo la aparición de este emparejamiento transnacional permite escenificar una contraposición de identidades que resulta en una representación comodificada y exportable de “lo inglés” que resuena con los discursos de lo que se denomina aquí cine “peri-Brexit”, esto es, películas que se produjeron alrededor del Brexit, cronológicamente hablando, pero también discursivamente. Siguiendo esta aproximación, este artículo analiza la idea despolitizada de identidad inglesa que ofrece About Time (2013), de Richard Curtis, y explora la construcción identitaria en juego en The Nest (2020), de Sean Durkin, cuyo tono se acerca al panorama afectivo desencantado propio del momento post-referéndum.
