About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Cuadernos de Investigación Geográfica / Geographical Research Letters (ISSN 0211-6820, EISSN 1697-9540) is a scientific journal that publishes two issues per year. It includes papers on Physical Geography and other related environmental sciences (Hydrology, Ecology, Climatology). Interdisciplinary studies with Human Geography are also welcome.

All papers are subject to full peer review.

Authors linked to other organizations are welcome.

Peer Review Process

Before publication, the papers must undergo a simple external peer review process following the single-blind system (the reviewer knows the author, but the author does not know the reviewer).

The papers will be submitted to at least two anonymous reviewers proposed by the editorial team of the journal. Obtaining two positive evaluations is an essential requirement for publication.

Upon receipt of the manuscripts, the authors will receive an acknowledgment of receipt and, after the review process, a notification of the editorial decision.

Publication Frequency

This Journal is published twice a year.

Journal items are published as part of an issue with its own Table of Contents.

Journal History

Founded in 1980, Cuadernos de Investigación Geográfica = Geographical Reseach Letters is the continuation of Cuadernos de Investigación: Geografía e Historia, which was published for the first time in 1975 at the University College of La Rioja. CIG has been in publication uninterruptedly for more than 35 years. It is indexed in Scopus since 2009 and in Emerging Sources Citation Index (Thomson Reuters) since 2015.

Plagirism Policy

Papers submitted to Cuadernos de Investigación Geográfica will be screened for plagiarism using Turnitin plagiarism detection tool. Cuadernos de Investigación Geográfica will immediately reject papers leading to plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

Open Access Policy

This journal guarantees open free access to the published information, based on the principle that free access to research improves the global exchange of knowledge.

It is recommended to deposit supplementary material, at least the research data underlying publications, in institutional or thematic open-access repositories federated in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

Archiving Policy

For preservation purposes, all the journals published by the University of La Roja are also included in RIUR (Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de La Rioja) and Dialnet.

Likewise, the Cuadernos de Investigación Geográfica / Geographical Research Letters uses the LOCKSS system (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), which ensures the journal has a permanent and secure archive. The archived issues can be accessed in the LOCKSS Editorial Manifesto (https://publicaciones.unirioja.es/ojs/index.php/cig/gateway/lockss). In this way, articles are progressively archived, guaranteeing that the stored digital information can remain available and continue to be used in the future."

Authors are allowed and encouraged to disseminate electronically their contribution, as it favors its circulation and dissemination and increases its citation and scope among the academic community.
