John Rawls is one of the most notable and controversial thinkers of the second half of the 20th century. His book A Theory of Justice (1971) has revitalized moral and political reflection by treating and analyzing such relevant concepts and issues as the notion of justice, equality, liberty, a model of a pluralistic and tolerant democratic society, civil disobedience and conscientious objection, etc. The influence of Rawls as a representative of "liberal egalitarianism" in the current panorama of political thought is, therefore, considerable, especially from his project of rereading all these questions guided by such renowned classics as J. Locke, J. J. Rousseau and I. Kant. It should not be surprising that it has been the subject of numerous comments.
