Evaluation of the pasture production in abandoned fields of Camero Viejo (Iberian System, La Rioja, Spain)

Abstract

Tbe pasture production and the potential capacity of livestock charge that abandoned fields of Camero Viejo can support are calculated. Using the "Pastoral Value" method we can know the production measured in Fodder Units (UF.) from plots colonized by Genista scorpius and Cistus laurifolius, as the most characteristic species in the dominant models of vegetal succession. Tbe possibilities that the most productivite abandoned fields could be recuperated as grazing lands is also discussed.
