In Portugal the social protection of the elderly dependents is pure appearance or trompe l’oeil, either if you analyze the alleged reform of the matter foreseen by the Decree-Law n.º 265/99, or if it only has into account the Decree-Law n.º 101/2006. The Portuguese Government has recognized very recently the need of putting up to date the Portuguese Social Security legal order regarding the long-term care protection, by means of approving the Resolution of the Ministry Council n.º 63/2015. Until this does not come into light, the need of providing full social protection to elderly dependents will remain a problem with an urgent need of solution, given the ratio of the elderly people existing in Portugal nowadays.
