Abstract

The only sources of the pre-statistical age which could enable us to know its population exactly are the recounts known as padrones, vecindarios, censos, o apeos. The peculiarities of their elaboration, (in most of cases they had a pronounced fiscal, purpose) oblige to analyze these recounts in a very rigorous way in order to discover their exactitude. In this paper, the author collects al! the censos of the town of Logroño found during the process o research, criticizes them and finally tries to establish the demographic evolution of the city between the XVI/Ith and XIXth centuries.
