Abstract

Critics have for long emphasized the relationship between Cadalso's "Cartas Marruecas" and Larra's articles. In this matter, however, little attention is ordinarily paid to the ideological commom features, and particularly to one of the Enlightenment essential subjects: The honest man ("homme de bien") ideal. The article intends to deal with this subject in both authors, while presenting Larra through it as a link between Enlightenment and nineteenth-century realism, disagreeing with recent interpretations that take Larra 's episodic romanticism back to Cadalso.
