The present work is the result of a necessity to give an answer to the questions provoked by an aspect of great importance in the theatre of Valle-Inclán. This aspect has never been aprroached by the critics in depth. So, our aim is to prove the existence of an important theoretical basis -from the concept of Classical Tragedy and the new concept of "the tragic " that starts in the X VIth century and ftnishes in the XIXth century with the beginning ofthe theories of Schopenhauer, Wagner and Nietv;che, until "the static drama" of Maeterlinck, closely connected with the theatrical renovation of Symbolism- which justifies the study of the chorus in Valle's plays in five main functions and in many subjunctions.Downloads
