Mímesis y realismos : una discusión relevante para la caracterización de modernismo y postmodernismo

Abstract

The ways in which mimetic representation is conceptualized at a particular time affects not only criticism but also creative writing in that period. The present discussion on mimesis centers on the problem ofreality and its semiosic representation in literature. So we discuss mimesis in relation to realism, or realisms, in literature. We make reference to Plato and Aristotle's as well as to more recent developments within the realm of philosophy and literature of the idea of the mimetic. These premises lead lo a better understanding of the phenomenon of literary change as it is found in this century's development of literary modernism and postmodernism.
