The police novel in Spain is experiencing a boom and expansion nowadays. Writers such as Alicia Giménez Bartlett or Lorenzo Silva will incorporate important novelties to the genre, which will mean renewal and adaptation to the current reality of our country. These innovations are, fundamentally, three. The modern police genre is based on three fundamental concepts. The first is the main protagonist belongs to the public security forces. The second is the importance of the private lives of the detectives. The last one, and analyzed here, is the emergence of the detective’s work-partner as a co-protagonist in all the novels.
