Making peace. The representation of the embrace gesture in art as an exemplary tool and emotional support in the construction of community peace narratives

The embrace is one of the symbolic gestures that we historically associate with the concept of peace. Its presence in Western visual culture has served, in some cases, as an icon of reconciliation between opposing sides and as an image to illustrate the end of war. In this text we reflect on this issue through the approach to different artistic manifestations that have as protagonist the action of the embrace, analyzing its symbolic variations and its uses as an exemplary tool and emotional support for the whole population after a certain conflict.
