Abstract

The present article deals with both the ethic and the aesthetic value of Hemingway’s contribution to world literature, it contemplates this contribution from the perspective of writers that belonged to Hemingway’s generation. The autobiographical writings of Ernest Hemingway, Mª Teresa León, Scott Fitzgerald and John Dos Passos cast light on the contradictions, instability and anxiety caused by the quick succession of changes leading from the Jazz decade to the years of the Great Depression. The revolutionary changes in politics, ideology and everyday life underwent through the Twenties and Thirties and WWII built a new context for a renewed late modern kind of literature.
