The tempest is a 'topos' of the epic. Thefamous example of Aen. 1.81-165, which is derived, through contamination, from both passages of the Odyssey and the Bellum Poenicum of Nevio, has been a model for the Latín (Ovidio, Lucano, Silio ltalico, Estacio, Valerio Flaco, Juvenco, Draconcio) and the Romance Epics, as is witnessed by abundant samples in the Spanish Epic (Ercilla, Juan Rufo, Barahona de Soto, Virués, Pedro de Oña, Lope de Vega, Villaviciosa, Valbuena, López de Zárate) which are analyzed here in relation to the Virgilian source and the conditioning derivedfrom the very argument of the works and their historie circumstance.Downloads
