The article posits the existence of two clearly defined periods in Hemingway's production. A first period that covers his literary work published prior to 1950, that we call modernist, anda post-war period of production, both, technically and aesthetically, innovative, although ideologically rooted in certain views ofthefirst period even ifto deviatefrom them. These views that we stress are, first, the tragic scheme of violence in individual and social life in our time, according to Hemingway. Second, we underline the modelling function that Hemingway allows the bullfight to have on his own texts, in the scope of an allcomprehending view oftime as the over-ruling factor, the unchainer of tragedy.Downloads
