Abstract

Through the novel Laura Laur (1983), Quebec writer Suzanne Jacob makes the reader think about feminine identity as it has been defined and fixed by patriarchal tradition and androcentric narratives. This study will analyse the strategies used by the author to question these preconceived images. The different focalisations presented in the novel are unable to provide any certainty about the character of Laura Laur, the enigmatic female figure who gives title to the work. Her actions are never explained but they have an impact on all the other characters. This analysis will show how the narrative deconstructs the myths that have defined the feminine gender and the relationships between the sexes.

Eva Pich-Ponce, UNIVERSIDAD DE SEVILLA

Eva Pich-Ponce es Profesora Contratada Doctora en el Departamento de Filología Francesa de la Universidad de Sevilla. Se licenció en Filología Inglesa (2005) y en Filología Francesa (2006) en la Universitat de València. Tras cursar sus estudios universitarios fue galardonada con el Tercer Premio Nacional en Filología Inglesa (2006) y con el Segundo Premio Nacional en estudios de Filología Francesa (2007), ambos otorgados por el Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia. Se especializó en literatura quebequense contemporánea defendiendo en 2010 una tesis doctoral centrada en las novelas de la escritora quebequense Marie Claire Blais. Posteriormente, publicó un estudio comparativo de la obra de Marie-Claire Blais y de Margaret Atwood (Marie-Claire Blais y Margaret Atwood: bellas bestias, oráculos y apocalipsis, Publicacions de la Universitat de València, 2014). También ha publicado diferentes artículos en revistas científicas como Études en littérature canadienne (2011), Conserveries Mémorielles (2013), Çédille. Revista de estudios franceses (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014), entre otras. Su investigación se ha centrado en la literatura quebequense contemporánea escrita por mujeres y ha abarcado el estudio de novelistas como Catherine Mavrikakis, Madeleine Monette, Sylvie Desrosiers o Carole Fréchette.
