Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the characteristics of the use of single-clause sentences in Kyrgyz and English across various text types and to determine their role in conveying semantic and emotional emphasis. To achieve this, works of Kyrgyz and English literature were examined, dialogues and phrases from films were selected, and business texts, including instructions, reports, and guidelines, were analysed. The analysis was conducted based on key parameters, including semantic functions, structural features, and stylistic significance of single-clause sentences. The results of the study showed that single-clause sentences performed various functions, ranging from expressing emotions and creating atmosphere in literature and cinematography to enhancing clarity and efficiency in business communication. In Kyrgyz literature, single-clause sentences reinforced cultural and patriotic themes, often emphasising a connection with nature and traditional values, whereas in English literature, they highlighted the internal states and experiences of characters. In business texts of both linguistic systems, single-clause sentences were used to simplify information transfer, allowing actions, requirements, and recommendations to be formulated concisely and clearly. A comparison of the use of single-clause sentences revealed both similarities and differences. Both languages employed them to convey generalised and impersonal meanings; however, in English, the emphasis shifted towards a direct and pragmatic presentation, whereas in Kyrgyz, the formal and respectful nature of expression was more pronounced. The findings allow for a deeper understanding of the functions of single-clause sentences and their stylistic flexibility in different linguistic contexts.
